Zoe Rosenberg faces felony conspiracy charge in Sonoma County Superior Court case

Petaluma, Calif. — The second day of the trial of Zoe Rosenberg, a Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) operative, continued in Sonoma County Superior Court this afternoon following opening arguments yesterday. Rosenberg faces one felony conspiracy charge and three misdemeanor counts, including trespassing and theft.

Today’s testimony included remarks from a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy, who confirmed that photos taken of Rosenberg and posted on social media were taken at Petaluma Poultry’s processing facility. His testimony was followed by that of Mike Bailey, a Cybersecurity Director for Petaluma Poultry’s parent company Perdue, who noted that during one of the break-ins, 168 computer files were accessed, 28 computer files were emailed to the email address r2rescueca@gmail.com, and among those files were customer sales information, employee information, retailer information, PTO requests, and more. Most concerning was confidential information that was allegedly accessed by Rosenberg, which included names and personal phone numbers of Petaluma Poultry employees.

“Today’s testimony further clarified the reckless and dangerous actions of Zoe Rosenberg,” said Dayna Ghirardelli, Executive Director of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau. “The remarks from law enforcement and cybersecurity experts contradicted Rosenberg’s position and showed a far bigger scheme with more cynical goals, including hacking confidential employee records…an illegal breach that may very well have been the impetus behind questionable tactics in front of Petaluma Poultry workers private residences in recent months.”

Poultry is part of DxE’s ongoing intimidation campaign to eliminate animal agriculture in Sonoma County. The defendant’s reckless actions include:

  • Breaking into chicken houses under cover of darkness to steal livestock, recklessly jeopardizing biosecurity and animal health.

  • Accessing company data and privileged information through private computer systems.

  • Harassing associates and their families at private residences.

  • Disrupting businesses and restaurants across Northern California.

Petaluma Poultry is a recognized leader in free-range and organic poultry, with farms and facilities subject to rigorous audits and government oversight. The company remains united with its associates and neighbors against these illegal tactics and will continue to defend the region’s food supply, the importance of local agriculture, and the future of responsible animal farming.
