Zoe Rosenberg faces felony conspiracy charge in Sonoma County Superior Court case

Petaluma, Calif. — The second week of the jury trial of Zoe Rosenberg, a Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) operative, kicked off in Sonoma County Superior Court today with testimony from Carla Cabral, an animal caretaker who is a longtime member of DxE and who has a track record of extreme animal activism in her own right. With a large ‘Vegan’ tattoo on her forearm and whose stunts have included supergluing her hand to the counter at a Trader Joe’s and Sacramento legislative hearing, prosecutors portrayed the defense’s ‘expert witness’ as someone with biases towards animal agriculture and Petaluma Poultry. Cabral provided testimony in support of the defense and began answering questions under cross-examination, which will continue into tomorrow.

Despite clear and compelling evidence shared with the jury last week, including testimony supporting the prosecution from a deputy sheriff, cybersecurity manager, and safety, security and environmental manager, Rosenberg’s defense began with testimony from an activist guising themself as an  ‘animal caretaker.’ “It’s par for the course that after a strong line-up of testimony from prosecutors, Rosenberg’s legal team puts forth a DxE member with no educational or professional credentials to be an ‘animal caretaker’ beyond a deep connection to our region’s most extreme animal activist organization,” said Jennifer Beretta, a spokesperson for the Sonoma County Family Farmers Alliance who is also part of a multi-generational organic farming family. “The questionable character of today’s witness is only outmatched by her extreme tactics to advance an extreme agenda.”

Poultry is part of DxE’s ongoing intimidation campaign to eliminate animal agriculture in Sonoma County. The defendant’s reckless actions include:

  • Breaking into chicken houses under cover of darkness to steal livestock, recklessly jeopardizing biosecurity and animal health.

  • Accessing company data and privileged information through private computer systems.

  • Harassing associates and their families at private residences.

  • Disrupting businesses and restaurants across Northern California.

Petaluma Poultry is a recognized leader in free-range and organic poultry, with farms and facilities subject to rigorous audits and government oversight. The company remains united with its associates and neighbors against these illegal tactics and will continue to defend the region’s food supply, the importance of local agriculture, and the future of responsible animal farming.
