Zoe Rosenberg faces felony conspiracy charge in Sonoma County Superior Court case

Petaluma, Calif. — The second week of the jury trial of Zoe Rosenberg, a Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) operative, continued in Sonoma County Superior Court today with the cross-examination of Carla Cabral, an ‘animal caretaker’ with an extensive record of extreme animal activism, including the theft of baby goats from a farm earlier this year. Cabral, whose stunts have also included supergluing her hand to a table at Trader Joe’s headquarters, faced a prosecution that continued to question her character and credibility as someone who engaged in similar activities as Zoe Rosenberg, the defendant who faces up to five years in prison if convicted of all charges. Today’s trial also included another defense witness, Rocky Chau, who was quickly dismissed as a witness in the case after invoking his 5th Amendment rights to protect himself against self-incrimination.
“Carla Cabral’s involvement with DxE runs deep, and today’s testimony showed just how extreme her views are and how distorted her reality is,” said Jennifer Beretta, a spokesperson for the Sonoma County Family Farmers Alliance who is also part of a multi-generational organic farming family. “Carla admitted to stealing farm animals, superglued her hand to a desk at Trader Joe’s headquarters, and pocketed $45,000 for a ‘fellowship’ with DxE,” Beretta added. “She continues to show poor judgement, was confirmed to lack the qualifications necessary to diagnose ‘unwell’ farm animals, and simply lacks the credibility to be an effective witness.”
Poultry is part of DxE’s ongoing intimidation campaign to eliminate animal agriculture in Sonoma County. The defendant’s reckless actions include:
Breaking into chicken houses under cover of darkness to steal livestock, recklessly jeopardizing biosecurity and animal health.
Accessing company data and privileged information through private computer systems.
Harassing associates and their families at private residences.
Disrupting businesses and restaurants across Northern California.
Petaluma Poultry is a recognized leader in free-range and organic poultry, with farms and facilities subject to rigorous audits and government oversight. The company remains united with its associates and neighbors against these illegal tactics and will continue to defend the region’s food supply, the importance of local agriculture, and the future of responsible animal farming.
