Defendant Zoe Rosenberg faces felony conspiracy charge in Sonoma County Superior Court case

Petaluma, Calif. — The second week of the jury trial of a Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) operative concluded today with the cross-examination of defense witness Raven Deerbrook, followed by testimony from the Defendant herself: Zoe Rosenberg, who faces a felony conspiracy charge and misdemeanor charges of burglary and theft in Sonoma County Superior Court.

Today’s testimony began with the cross-examination of Raven Deerbrook, who acknowledged she was in frequent communication with Rosenberg’s defense team in recent days. Deerbrook also attempted to take blame for some of Rosenberg’s alleged criminal acts – following Deerbrook’s no-contest plea deal to charges she faced. Deerbrook is immune from further prosecution from her role in the case – which may have played a role in Deerbrook’s willingness to accept blame to aide in Rosenberg’s defense. Despite Deerbrook’s claims, Rosenberg admitted to trespassing onto Petaluma Poultry’s processing facility on multiple occasions, and stealing four chickens.

“Zoe Rosenberg confessed to stealing chickens and trespassing on multiple occasions – two of the charges she is accused of,” said Jennifer Beretta, a spokesperson for the Sonoma County Family Farmers Alliance who is also part of a multi-generational organic farming family. “Throughout the week, the defense has put forward witnesses who participated in the scheme – which spanned five break-ins and included disguises and the theft of confidential business and employee records. It is my hope this is compelling evidence to support the prosecution’s case.”

Poultry is part of DxE’s ongoing intimidation campaign to eliminate animal agriculture in Sonoma County. The defendant’s reckless actions include:

  • Breaking into chicken houses under cover of darkness to steal livestock, recklessly jeopardizing biosecurity and animal health.

  • Accessing company data and privileged information through private computer systems.

  • Harassing associates and their families at private residences.

  • Disrupting businesses and restaurants across Northern California.

Petaluma Poultry is a recognized leader in free-range and organic poultry, with farms and facilities subject to rigorous audits and government oversight. The company remains united with its associates and neighbors against these illegal tactics and will continue to defend the region’s food supply, the importance of local agriculture, and the future of responsible animal farming.
