Defendant Zoe Rosenberg faces felony conspiracy charge in Sonoma County Superior Court case

Petaluma, Calif. — The third week of the jury trial of a Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) operative began today with additional testimony from the Defendant in the case: Zoe Rosenberg, who faces a felony conspiracy charge and misdemeanor charges of burglary and theft in Sonoma County Superior Court.
Much of today’s hearing focused on social media content the Defendant posted on her personal social media pages, narrated, or was otherwise featured in as part of DxE official social media channels. The jury was excused during much of those discussions, as the judge weighed the merits of allowing select posts to be entered into evidence and shared with the jury. Other new information presented today included three key developments: Zoe Rosenberg was wearing an earpiece the night chickens were stolen, potentially in an effort to communicate and coordinate with her team as part of a broader conspiracy; Rosenberg used break-ins at other poultry facilities as livestreamed publicity stunts, similar to the circumstances leading to the charges in the Petaluma Poultry case; and Zoe received a five-figure stipend for a DxE fellowship this year, earning between $20K to $25K (separately, DxE and affiliates donated $95,000 to an animal sanctuary founded by Zoe Rosenberg; Zoe’s mother, Dr. Rosenberg, is also the animal sanctuary’s Executive Director).
“After Zoe Rosenberg admitted to burglary and theft on Friday, we learned today that she wore an earpiece the night chickens were stolen from Petaluma Poultry, giving us additional evidence that this was indeed part of a broader conspiracy,” said Jennifer Beretta, a spokesperson for the Sonoma County Family Farmers Alliance who is also part of a multi-generational organic farming family. “She livestreamed her criminal acts as they unfolded, and despite her not guilty plea, her own remarks from the witness stand paint a more incriminating picture of the entirety of this series of reckless actions, spanning five separate break-ins to Petaluma Poultry.”
Poultry is part of DxE’s ongoing intimidation campaign to eliminate animal agriculture in Sonoma County. The defendant’s reckless actions include:
Breaking into chicken houses under cover of darkness to steal livestock, recklessly jeopardizing biosecurity and animal health.
Accessing company data and privileged information through private computer systems.
Harassing associates and their families at private residences.
Disrupting businesses and restaurants across Northern California.
Petaluma Poultry is a recognized leader in free-range and organic poultry, with farms and facilities subject to rigorous audits and government oversight. The company remains united with its associates and neighbors against these illegal tactics and will continue to defend the region’s food supply, the importance of local agriculture, and the future of responsible animal farming.
